Analysis of Technological and Economical Aspects of the On-Going Russian-Ukrainian Hybrid War: The Question of Modernity of Russian Army

Posudok si pokladá Otázku: Je ruská armáda moderná? a v prostredí vojny odohrávajúcej sa na Ukrajine v roku 2022 analyzuje tri témy, ktoré poskytujú odpoveď. Prvou témou, ktorú analyzujeme, sú konvenčné sily: venujeme sa skúmaniu slabých aj silných stránok ruského letectva, námorníctva a pozemných síl. Aby sme dokázali vykresliť obraz ich schopností, určujeme si dva protipóly, s ktorými ich porovnávame: americkú a ukrajinskú armádu. Druhou hlavnou témou je informačný sektor, kde skúmame využitie informačných technológií a umelej inteligencie vo vojne. Tretím aspektom je ekonomická stránka vojny, kde opisujeme zdroje financovania ruskej armády, obchody prebiehajúce vo vojenskom sektore, ale aj dopady opatrení spojené s konfliktom na Ukrajine: sankcie, zákaz využívania SWIFT systému a podobne. Tieto tri faktory boli zvolené na základe definície hybridnej vojny uvedenej v texte článku, ktorá sa na území Ukrajiny už od anexie Krymu v roku 2014 odohráva. Práca sa zameriava až na udalosti od 24. februára 2022.

This report starts with a Question: Is Russian army modern? and offers the answer based on the analysis of three topics related to the environment of Russia-Ukraine war of 2022. The first topic covers conventional forces: we focus on defining strengths and weaknesses of Russian Air Force, Navy and Ground Forces. In order to paint a picture of Russian capabilities, we designated two opposite poles as opponents: American and Ukrainian army. The second topic covers IT sector, where we dive into the use of information technology and artificial intelligence in a war conflict. The third topic focuses on the economic side of war, in which we analyse financing of the Russian army and its sources, trade within the military sector, but also implications of measures created because of the conflict, such as sanctions or ban from use of SWIFT. All of these factors were chosen based on the definition of a hybrid war provided in this article, which has been on-going since the anexation of Crimea in 2014. However, this work focuses on events happening since 24th February 2022.
