"A threefold Classis or Rank of Beings" aneb několik poznámek k jednomu z raně novověkých pokusů o vypracování monistického filosofického postoje

Martin Hemelík

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-62

Some interesting attempts to come to terms with a relevant consequences of cartesianism appeared during 17th century. One of these consequences was "the dualism", i.e. the opposition of body and mind.Among many monistic solutions of cartesian "dualism" we find also the conception of english aristocrat Lady Anne Conway [1631-1679]. She is the author of no great writings The Principles of the most Ancient and Modern Philosophy, which was published posthumously in 1690.This paper deals with the life and work of english women philosopher. Above all for czech readers it contains basic information for the first acquainting with her interesting conception...

BioCosmology - Science of the Universal Future

K.S. Khroutski

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1)

In my previous articles to E-LOGOS (2001, 2002, 2003) I introduced the original conception of philosophical personalist cosmology (in the aspects of ontology, epistemology, philosophy of science, axiology) and the derived Cosmist theory and methodology. Now the urge is to deepen the exploration by explaining the epistematic (not epistemic) basic principles of my approach, aiming, ultimately, for attaining personal wellness and improving human health. In this way, the main goal of my undertaking lies in proposing a Cosmist episteme and the derived BioCosmology, which might shift the world science towards a universal level - from the modern unified understanding...

The Two Arrows of Efficiency: A Commentary on Konstantin S. Khroutski's BioCosmology - Science of the Universal Future

Stephen M. Modell

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-10

Konstantin S. Khroutski (E-Logos 2006) has proposed a "Science of the Universal Future" moving away from an objectivist emphasis on evolutionary struggle espoused in current paradigms of understanding, and towards a comprehension of the universe as subjective and collaborative towards personal and universal ends. He argues that individuals are born with an inherent health design, which he labels their "basic cosmist functionality" (BCF). Contemporary science has drifted away from, and is actually adverse to arguments for design in nature, thus the need to explore more deeply what functionality means from a combined philosophicalscientific perspective....

Austrian Economics and the Problems of Apriorism

Jan Pavlik

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-73

Any attempt at scientific justification of the validity of the a priori economics or praxeology must face the danger of vicious circles coming from the fact that any science (including Hayek's evolutionary-aprioristic theory of neuronal networks as developed in his Sensory Order) is based on some a priori presuppositions. It is Hegel's conception of the spiral movement of the "experience of consciousness" (as applied originally in his Phenomenology of Spirit) which gives an efficient method of elimination of that kind of vicious circles; being aptly re-interpreted, it even enables to defend apriorism (in its evolutionary version) face to face the developments...

A Comparative View of Truth

Sara Klimes

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-4

The ancient Greeks debated its significance, the enlightenment period doubted its existence, and twentieth-century political parties manipulated its definition; throughout the centuries the notion of 'truth' has remained consistent in its ability to interest intellectuals. Plato, René Descartes and Václav Havel at first glance may appear to have little in common, however, their interest in inner truth is a tread tying them together.

Property: Past and Present

Erin Ashley Berry

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-10

Plato's Republic and Aristotle's The Politics boast certain similarities, including the description of property in terms of our everyday relationships; however, they differ in their analysis of these relationships. Plato is an ideological advocate for absolute parity within the guardian class. Each guardian holds their property in common, including wives, children and land (Plato, 155). Aristotle criticizes Plato's communist ideal with a more realistic view of property. He reasons that it is irrational to presume that equality for all people and property is achievable (Aristotle, 57). In this respect, Aristotle's realistic description of property is...

The Colour-Exclusion Problem

Frederik Gierlinger

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-13

There has been a long discussion about the seemingly large gap between Wittgenstein's early work, the Tractatus Logico Philosophicus (hereafter only TLP) and his posthumously published Philosophical Investigations (hereafter only PI). In this paper I argue that one of the main reasons for Wittgenstein turning away from the view uttered in the TLP was the Colour-Exclusion problem. I try to make clear what exactly the Colour-Exclusion problem is with regard to Wittgenstein's TLP and why it is so important. The first chapter makes clear what the purpose of the Tractatus is. I point out what Wittgenstein wanted to achieve and give a brief overview of...

This essay is an attempt to present insight into contemporary society and social pressure directed towards human individuals from without. Intention is to analyze modern consumer society in the context of present time in a way inspired by Marcuse, particularly his book 'One-Dimensional Man'. Essay reveals false needs as a system instruments serving to suppress other dimensions in us - especially ability to look through the golden cage of our wealthy lack of freedom. Essay compares world-views of the present times with the past ones, i.e. in the sphere of the art creation. It suggests a few of high-spirited views on reconstruction of the present social...

On "The Morality of Nature" and "The Dark Lantern" of Human Spirit

Martin Hemelík

E-LOGOS 2006, 13(1):1-59

Several years before his death John Stuart Mill wrote three essays. His stepdaughter Helen Taylor edited these interesting essays in 1874 in London. The article deals with some main problems which J. S. Mill analyzed in his texts, for example: the analysis of the concept of nature, considerations about the human nature and the role of understanding in the human knowledge, the problem of human rational and right action, the utility of religion (first of all of "religion of humanity"), the question of Naturam sequi as the fundamental principle of morals etc.To considerate or to reflect on these ideas is an excellent oportunity for author of article...
